Part 1:
I interviewed my mentor Laura Oliver her official title for this organization is director of operations and medical coordinator. Her main duties are pretty self-explanatory she oversees all the fosters all the other volunteers make sure everything’s in line. One of her main focus is the medical records of all the animals have been in the program and make sure that they get everything they need from meds to surgeries to dental work. Laura actually started this Organization back in 2011 her family growing up ran something similar to it so she was familiar with this type of program and really felt it weigh heavy on her heart and decided to do something about it. There isn’t much training if you do for this position more about the experience and what you learned along the way. The thing that she enjoys most about her job just being able to help you animals that are helpless themselves. Or be able to help families that can’t support their own dogs. Laura had another job as a teacher and finds both of these fulfilling. There really isn’t a typical workday here every day is different and everything is always changing. The turnarounds on Foster’s in different dogs is crazy you never know what’s gonna happen each day. Purpose behind this organization is to help elderly dogs that don’t get the appreciation and love what they deserve. Just because they’re slightly older and maybe have some issues doesn’t mean they don’t deserve to have a good life. It takes a lot to be successful one of the bigger things to remember is to stay organized and communicate with those who are part of this. One thing that is nice about this organization is that it’s nonprofit so the people that are a part of this organization want to be here but not here for the wrong reasons. Part 2: Truly do not have any questions that come to mind I feel like my mentor is really well spoken about her organization and is super passionate and doesn’t leave any details out. Why is that I can connect this back to going to high Tech is the whole idea of reaching out to the community and wanting to be connected. You’re always throwing fundraisers or events very similar to an exhibition. This organization has very similar I’ll be outgoing hope for the community and always tries to find the good in people but not for their own benefit for the animals benefit. . I was somewhat of a funny story we went to a shelter to go view some dogs that were potential for us to take him and there was a pitbull named Eli short for elephant because she looks like one. I swear on my life I’ve never seen a pitbull that fat and she was the sweetest little dog and she just made me laugh. . On that same day we saw Pomeranian that was shaved with just her on a tad a tiny full sweater as well the feistiest little things. Last year my internship was geared around building children’s confidence in themselves and branching out to new horizons for them and giving them hope, this internship is similar to my last in a way that we’re doing the same thing but for dogs and giving them a better life.
